Boca Grande is home to many fish species, but there's no doubt which one rules the water when it comes to action and excitement. Tarpon are Florida's premier inshore gamefish for a reason, and there's no better place to catch one than here with Captain Chris!Captain Chris has dedicated most of his life to helping people catch Tarpon. Targeting the "Silver King" has been a family tradition for a long time, and Tarpon fishing runs in his blood. At the age of five, Chris caught his first Tarpon, weighing around 80 pounds, in the deep waters of Boca Grande Pass with his father Mark. Even before that, his mother Cynthia was fighting Tarpon in Boca Grande Pass while pregnant with him. Captain Chris uses traditional live bait methods for catching Tarpon on his fishing charters. The most common live baits used include Blue Crabs, Pass Crabs, Squirrelfish, and Jumbo Shrimp. Live baits are drifted along the bottom of the pass, as well as other water columns where Tarpon can be found, using a transducer bottom machine. This method requires constant adjustment of the line depth to keep the baits within the “strike zone”. The live baits are presented as naturally as possible by using extra long leaders, heavy lead weights, and constant maneuvering of the boat by the Captain.Using these methods, Captain Chris consistently gets his clients on the fish, and—although there are no guarantees in fishing—has a better than 90% success rate when it comes to his Tarpon trips.Captain Christopher operates out of a custom built 21’ Clearwater 2000CC bay boat, built to the Captain’s standards in 2019. This modern vessel allows for a comfortable drift and great manueverability. There’s a lot of fishing space and also shaded T-top for hot summer days. The boat also has a Bluetooth stereo, so feel free to bring your favorite playlist!Captai Chris will supply everything you need, including rods, reels, bait, and tackle. All you need to bring along is some sunscreen (no spray please!), proper clothing, a cooler with some snacks and drinks, and a smile! Read More

Our fishing charters are designed for light tackle (spin) and fly fishing anglers who are interested in fishing the calmer, shallower waters of our inland and coastal waterways; targeting inshore species such as snook, tarpon, redfish, sea trout, pompano and the like. We have a year-round fishery down here in Naples, so there’s almost always something to offer anglers in terms of both species and fishing action.Naples, Florida is centrally located among one of the most active fisheries in the state – the Southwest Florida coast. Hiring a guide provides a number of benefits and many choose to book a fishing guide for a combination of experience, local knowledge, convenience, and cost-effectiveness.

Working with experienced fishing guides who know the best local spots and techniques can dramatically increase your odds of a great day. Having someone who is on the water every day and knows the area like the back of their hand is going to give you the best chances of success.

Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. When you consider all of the costs you would incur on your own such as the price of a boat, maintenance, insurance, gas, high-quality gear and tackle, repairs, and more, you’ll find that DIY is sometimes not worth the expense.

Even if you’ve got a great setup already in your home waters, booking a guide also provides a great opportunity to experience new techniques, new locations, or even a chance at a new target species to knock off the bucket list.

What is tarpon fishing in Cape Coral all about?

Cape Coral, Florida, is renowned for its incredible tarpon fishing opportunities, drawing anglers from around the world to its pristine waters. Tarpon, often referred to as the "Silver Kings," are prized for their immense size, acrobatic leaps, and sheer power, offering anglers an exhilarating challenge. These majestic fish can be found in abundance along the mangrove-lined channels, flats, and passes of Cape Coral, particularly during the peak tarpon season from spring to early summer.

One of the most thrilling aspects of tarpon fishing in Cape Coral is sight casting to rolling or feeding fish. Anglers scan the surface of the water for the telltale signs of tarpon activity, such as rolling or "daisy chaining" schools. Once spotted, precise casts with live bait or artificial lures are made to entice the tarpon to strike. This visual approach to fishing adds an extra layer of excitement and requires quick reflexes and accurate casting skills to hook into these elusive giants.

Tarpon in Cape Coral can reach staggering sizes, with fish weighing over 100 pounds not uncommon in these waters. Landing one of these behemoths requires stout tackle, strong knots, and a healthy dose of patience and determination. Catch-and-release practices are strongly encouraged to preserve the population of tarpon and ensure the sustainability of this iconic fishery in Cape Coral for generations to come. Whether pursuing trophy-sized tarpon or simply enjoying the thrill of the chase, Cape Coral offers an unforgettable tarpon fishing experience for anglers of all levels.

What are the most popular months to fish for tarpon fishing in Cape Coral?

In Cape Coral, Florida, tarpon seasons follow a distinct pattern influenced by factors such as water temperature, migration patterns, and spawning behavior. The prime tarpon season typically kicks off in spring, around March or April, as water temperatures begin to warm up. During this time, tarpon migrate northward along the Gulf Coast, making their way to the estuaries, passes, and flats of Cape Coral to feed and spawn. Spring is widely regarded as one of the best times to target tarpon in Cape Coral, with anglers enjoying consistent action and the opportunity to hook into trophy-sized fish.

As summer progresses, tarpon fishing in Cape Coral remains productive, with the peak season extending into early summer. The warmer water temperatures and longer daylight hours continue to attract tarpon to the area's abundant baitfish and favorable feeding grounds. Anglers can expect to encounter large concentrations of tarpon in the region's shallow waters, particularly around bridges, passes, and channels. This period offers optimal conditions for sight fishing and fly fishing for tarpon, as well as the chance to witness their breathtaking aerial displays firsthand.

By late summer and early fall, tarpon begin their southward migration along the Gulf Coast, signaling the end of the peak fishing season in Cape Coral. While some tarpon may still be present in the area, their numbers gradually diminish as they move to warmer waters in search of food and suitable spawning grounds. As the tarpon season winds down, anglers shift their focus to other species abundant in Cape Coral's waters, such as snook, redfish, and trout. Despite the seasonal fluctuations, Cape Coral remains a premier destination for tarpon fishing, offering anglers an unforgettable experience and the chance to pursue these majestic fish against the backdrop of Florida's stunning coastal scenery.

What techniques are popular for catching tarpon fishing in Cape Coral?

Tarpon fishing in Cape Coral, Florida, requires a combination of skill, patience, and strategic know-how to hook into these elusive giants successfully. One popular technique employed by anglers is live bait fishing, using natural baits such as mullet, pinfish, or crabs. These baits are typically presented on heavy-duty tackle and rigged to swim freely in the water column, enticing tarpon with their natural movements. Live bait fishing is particularly effective when targeting tarpon around bridges, channels, and passes, where these fish congregate to feed on tidal currents and baitfish migrations.

Another effective tarpon fishing technique in Cape Coral is sight casting with artificial lures. Anglers scan the surface of the water for rolling or cruising tarpon, then carefully present a well-placed cast with lures such as swimbaits, soft plastics, or topwater plugs. This method requires stealth, precision, and the ability to accurately mimic the movements of natural prey. Sight casting to tarpon adds an exciting element of visual excitement to the fishing experience, as anglers witness the electrifying moment when a tarpon strikes and leaps out of the water in a spectacular display of power and agility.

Fly fishing for tarpon is also a popular pursuit in Cape Coral, offering anglers a challenging and rewarding way to target these iconic game fish. Anglers armed with fly rods and specialized tarpon flies stalk the shallows, flats, and mangrove-lined channels in search of feeding or cruising tarpon. Success in fly fishing for tarpon relies on delicate presentations, precise casting, and the ability to "match the hatch" by selecting flies that mimic the natural forage available to tarpon in Cape Coral's diverse ecosystem. Whether fishing with live bait, artificial lures, or flies, tarpon fishing in Cape Coral promises an unforgettable adventure for anglers seeking the thrill of battling one of the ocean's most formidable adversaries.

What other species are popular in Cape Coral?

In addition to tarpon, Cape Coral, Florida, offers anglers a diverse range of fishing opportunities targeting a variety of other prized species. One of the most sought-after catches in the area is snook, renowned for their powerful strikes and acrobatic fights. These elusive predators can be found lurking in the mangrove-lined shorelines, bridges, and docks throughout Cape Coral's extensive canal system. Anglers often target snook using live bait, artificial lures, or fly fishing techniques, especially during the cooler months when they gather in deeper holes and channels.

Another popular species to catch in Cape Coral is redfish, prized for their hard-fighting nature and delicious taste. Redfish can be found prowling the shallow flats, oyster bars, and grassy shorelines, particularly during the incoming and outgoing tides. Anglers targeting redfish often use live bait such as shrimp or mullet, as well as artificial lures like soft plastics and spoons. With their distinctive copper-colored scales and powerful tailing behavior, redfish provide an exciting challenge for anglers of all skill levels in Cape Coral.

Cape Coral is also home to abundant populations of speckled trout, offering anglers ample opportunities for fast-paced action and delectable table fare. Speckled trout can be found in a variety of habitats, including grass flats, sandy bottoms, and deeper channels. Anglers often target them using live bait such as shrimp or mullet, as well as artificial lures like soft plastics and topwater plugs. Whether casting from shore or drifting over productive flats, Cape Coral provides an ideal setting for anglers to pursue speckled trout year-round.
